Zarryon Fereti has been dismissed from the men's basketball team, according to head coach Anthony Solomon.
Hockey legend Scotty Bowman and Joel Darling, executive producer of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's famous "Hockey Night in Canada," graced hockey fans with their presence on campus Wednesday. The guests for the forum entitled, "Big League Sports and the Media" were introduced by Paul Wieland, lecturer of journalism and mass communication.
The new smoking policy, which requires smokers to stay 30 feet away from campus building entrances, has generated both criticism and support from the faculty and student body. Most people recognize the policy as a good idea, but some argue the university's plan to enforce the policy won't work.
Sister Margaret Carney, O.S.F, university president, wrote in a letter to faculty and staff Dec. 8, 2006 that compensation increases for the 2006-07 fiscal year will not be offered. "The reaction to the letter was that it seemed to hop over another reason," faculty senator Carole McNall said.
University Ministries has begun searching for students who are willing to volunteer for a Re-entry Initiative at the McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Bradford, Pa. The volunteers will serve as mentors and instructors to inmates who are nearing their release date.
As of Dec. 31, 2006, applications for the fall 2007 semester have increased by 127 over last year, according to the faculty senate Web site. Enrollment has increased by one student over last year at the same point, according to the Web site. According to a report by Jim DiRisio, director of admissions, applications are up by 12.
St. Bonaventure University's various schools of education are trying aggressive recruitment plans to get students toparticipate in respective programs. Each school within the university has its own way of recruiting students. Since the Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communication faced low enrollment this year, they chose to be more proactive.
St. Bonaventure University should soon know whether it will be able to offer gerontology as a major. The proposed major has been approved by Sister Margaret Carney, O.S.F., university president, and mailed to the New York State education department, Stahl said.
