Massachusetts topped the Bonnies, 83-44, extending both its home winning streak and the Bonnies' losing streak to six games.
Coming into this season, the talk of the St. Bonaventure men's basketball program was the inside tandem of Paul Williams and Michael Lee. The pair adorned the cover of The Bona Venture basketball preview supplement, as well as other publications, and came into the season hyped as one of the best 1-2 combinations in the low post in the Atlantic 10.
Massachusetts will look to continue its undefeated home-court record against Atlantic 10 opponents Wednesday night as the Minutemen host the Bonnies at 7.
While the men's basketball team is decidedly lacking in highlights this season, guard Zarryon Fereti may have the two most memorable ones. His leaning, double-pump 3-pointer as time ran out against Central Arkansas forced overtime and helped the Bonnies escape from their home-opener with a win, and his 26 points, along with a critical block after a turnover late in the game, allowed the Bonnies to knock off Saint Louis in the opening game of Atlantic 10 conference play.
The men's basketball team will resume play after a week off as it hosts Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon at 4 in the Reilly Center.
Heading into Saturday's game, the Bonnies had dropped 11 consecutive games against Saint Joseph's. The Hawks increased that streak to 12 as they topped the Bonnies, 76-68. Hawks guard Jawan Carter led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, including eight made free throws in the final 40 seconds of the game.
The Bonnies nearly come out with a victory over Saint Joseph's, but once again let another golden opportunity slip through their fingers Saturday afternoon.
