Clare College courses should be balanced

While it may have appeared to go smoothly overall, the registration process could have gone smoother for many Bonaventure students, and it wasn't uncommon to hear negative comments while roaming Plassmann Hall or while catching a quick bite to eat in the Hickey Dining Hall.

Required Clare College courses, such as Catholic and Franciscan Heritage and World Views, filled fast and left students scrambling to register for any they could manage to add. More Monday/Wednesday/Friday sections need to be opened for Clare College courses so students can meet their graduating requirements without having to stress.

Administrators added 16 more Tuesday/Thursday Clare College courses from the fall 2008 semester to the spring 2009 semester. However, Monday/Wednesday/Friday Clare College course offerings have not changed from last semester's 71. Students are finding it hard to meet scheduling demands with such limited time offerings.

Students should not have to beg busy professors to get into required classes for the spring 2009 semester.

To lessen the stress students feel during registration, more sections with more day and time choices, especially for Clare College courses, should be available. The Clare College classes could leave a specific amount of seats open for each grade level to make sure juniors, sophomores and freshmen have an opportunity to get into in high-demand courses.

The university must devise a way for required classes to be open. Bonaventure is both too small for large, conference-style classes, but too large for quaint get-together classes when so many students are clamoring to get into a class.

The university needs to find a solution so students do not suffer the consequences of not meeting graduating requirements due to class unavailability.
