The games aren't played at the Reilly Center, in front of more than 5,000 people, but the St. Bonaventure University basketball intramural league has some exciting moments.
Three weeks ago, Midget Macs defeated the GeeBees, 103-57. Two days later the GeeBees were able to rebound with a come-from-behind victory over Team Wegman in overtime.
This semester there is only one division, but there have traditionally been two. "We usually have two divisions because it allows more competition and fairness for all teams involved," league coordinator Bob Torella wrote in an e-mail.
"The A division is for teams that are more competitive and might take the games more seriously. The B division is also competitive, just on a lower scale and is a little more suitable for teams that want to go out there and have some fun, regardless if they win or not."
A lack of teams wanting to play in the A league led to only one league, Torella wrote. He added it was a good mix-up.
"There are the teams that will beat teams by 80 points, but there are also many games that the scores are within a couple points of each other or even go into overtime," he wrote.
Dave Kolkowski, a member of the GeeBees, likes having two leagues.
"Two leagues are more fair because some people played Division I (basketball) last year, and other people didn't even play for their high school team," he said.
Those who would like to join the league next semester Torella should look for rosters in the Richter Center within the first two weeks of the spring semester, Torella said.
